Consulting

Check out my tech startup podcast TechZing, we've recorded over 220 episodes. Maximise your downtime by listening to us while you code, commute or do the dishes!

I can work with you either as gun-for-hire coder, or as a turnkey web consultant. My rate is $200/hour.

When you work with me as a web consultant I use a step-by-step work-flow that gets fantastic results for my clients. It is structured in such a way that you will always walk away with value no matter how many phases we work together. Each (optional) phase results in a deliverable that you can take away and use to advance your business.

How I Work With My Clients – Turnkey Web Consultancy

Phase 1: Create Mind-Maps (a light weight way to describe the business in full)

  1. I conference with my client so they can explain their idea in full
  2. I work with my client to create competitive & functional mind-maps of the idea
  3. I help create go-to-market strategy mind-maps

Deliverable (see an example)
Light weight mind-maps that describe the business in full

Phase 2: Mock-ups

  1. I conference with my client to conceptualize the best possible UX for the product
  2. I iteratively mock-up all journeys and UX components of the product in wire-frames

Deliverable (see an example)
Interactive mock-ups of the full app allowing the client to show present to customers and investors

Phase 3: Estimation

  1. I break the entire project up into piecemeal coding tasks (based on mind-maps & mockups)
  2. I estimate man hours required to code all the project components

Deliverable
Spreadsheet with all components of the project estimated to allow for time planning and budgeting

Phase 4a: Recommendations

  1. I make recommendations about the best technology to use to build the project
  2. I help my client find a designer to create the look & feel
  3. I help my client find developers to build the project
  4. I manage the on-going development of the project using Agile

Deliverable
Technology report & staff

Phase 4b: Development

  1. I help decide on the best tools & technology to use to build the app
  2. I design the general look & feel of the app
  3. I build the project with weekly Agile iterations and show-and-tells

Deliverable
The end product with well structured and commented code

Phase 5: Maintenance

  1. I work with my client on an ongoing basis
  2. I help my client find an ongoing maintenance provider
  3. I work with the client as a temporary CTO and help them establish their business

Deliverable
Peace of mind

The end-to-end work-flow can either be used to turn a clients ideas and theories into reality – or a subset can be used on smaller parts of a client project.
